10 Fun Ways to Spend a Day on the Boardwalk
Here are my top things to do in Bethany Beach, on the boardwalk!

1. Go for a leisurely stroll on the Boardwalk
Of course, one of the best things to do on the boardwalk is to simply walk around. It’s not as busy as some of the other boardwalks in the area, and that’s what makes it so nice! If you can arrive during sunrise, even better – it’s less crowded, and you can go for a nice run or bike without bumping into people.
I love walking down the boardwalk in the early morning, when the beach is peaceful and quiet, or during the sunset. There are plenty of benches to people-watch and enjoy some ice cream!
2. Visit the Bethany Beach Nature Center
The Bethany Beach Nature Center is a great stop for anyone interested in the local environment and wildlife.
I’ve visited a few times, and there are interactive exhibits, a boardwalk trail through the wetlands, and even a chance to spot some local critters like crabs, birds, and fish. It’s a fun boardwalk activity, especially if you’re interested in learning more about the area’s local wildlife.

3. Try Some Local Seafood
You can’t visit Bethany Beach without trying some of their incredible local seafood, and the boardwalk is the perfect place to do just that.
One of my favorite Bethany Beach restaurants on the boardwalk to grab a quick bite is The Blue Crab. Their crab cake sandwich is simply amazing, and they offer some premium seafood, fast-casual style.
There are also plenty of vendors offering shrimp, fish tacos, and more along the boardwalk! You can take your lunch to go and enjoy it on the beach, or enjoy your meal on one of the many benches. (just watch out for seagulls!)

4. Shop at Local Boutiques
The Boardwalk has a lot of charming boutiques where you can find unique gifts, beachwear, and local art.
I’ve found everything from cute beach towels to handmade jewelry at the shops along the boardwalk. One of my favorite spots to pick up some unique jewelry to add to my collection is Silver Stockpile Inc.
The jewelry selection is so unique, and the prices are great for quality silver jewelry. I bought a gorgeous pair of dangly silver earrings here a few years ago, and I get compliments every time I wear them!

5. Enjoy Some Ice Cream and Other Sweet Treats
Nothing beats the heat quite like some ice cream on the boardwalk. I always make a point to stop at Kohr Bros. Frozen Custard, where the soft-serve custard is incredibly creamy and comes in a variety of flavors like mint and orange popsicles.
It can get crowded during the summertime (like people waiting in lines all the way to the next block) so if you’re in the mood for something different, there are also stands selling fudge, candy, and other sweet treats – Candy Kitchen is a good spot to grab some fudge to take home!

6. Watch the Sunset on the Boardwalk
Bethany Beach is known for its stunning sunsets, and the boardwalk offers the perfect spot to take in the views. Grab a spot on one of the benches and enjoy the beautiful colors as the sun dips below the horizon.
It’s a peaceful, romantic experience, and if you time it right, you might even see some dolphins out in the water! I’ll never forget one time after a brief thunderstorm, the sky turned hot pink and we saw a beautiful rainbow on the beach while the sun was setting. The boardwalk is the perfect spot to watch a beautiful sunset!
7. Rent a Bike or Some Surrey Bikes
If you’re looking to cover more ground on the boardwalk, renting a bike or a Surrey bike is a great option. You can rent bikes right by the beach, and it’s a fun way to explore the area while getting some exercise.
You can also rent bikes at the Bethany Bike Shop. The rentals come with a helmet and bike lock, and the staff is really friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend renting a bike with them!

8. Catch a Live Performance on the Boardwalk
During the summer months, the Bethany Beach Boardwalk offers live music and performances. Local musicians and bands often play near the beach, and sometimes you can catch a free concert right on the boardwalk!
For more information about upcoming live performances, visit the Town of Bethany’s website! Shows are a mix of genres, from rock and pop to country, jazz, etc. Bench seating is provided free of charge, but it is limited. You can always enjoy the music on one of the nearby benches!

Getting Around Bethany
Bethany Beach is a small town, so getting around is easy. If you’re staying in the town center, most of the boardwalk activities are within walking distance. If you’re exploring further, renting bikes is a great way to get around. Many places along the boardwalk offer bike rentals, including Surrey bikes, if you want something a little more fun.
Parking can be limited, especially during peak season, so walking or biking is often the best way to enjoy the area without worrying about finding a spot.

Where to Stay in Bethany
There are a lot of places to stay in Bethany Beach, but keep in mind that hotel prices can fluctuate throughout the year, with peak season (late May to September) being especially pricey.
Budget option
For a more affordable stay, check out Hotel Bethany Beach. It offers clean, simple rooms with easy access to the beach at a great price, especially during the off-season. Plus, breakfast is included!
Mid Range option
If you’re after a little more comfort, I recommend Bethany Beach Ocean Suites. Located right on the Boardwalk, it features spacious rooms and excellent amenities, plus you’re just a short walk to the beach. It’s a great choice for families or couples.
Luxury option
For something extra special, treat yourself to The Addy Sea Historic Oceanfront Inn. This charming B&B offers cozy, beautifully decorated rooms, direct beach access, and standout perks like a gourmet breakfast, afternoon teas, and unique outdoor showers. It’s the perfect spot for a relaxing getaway.
