20 Top Attractions in Bethany Beach

Some of these activities (like beach bonfires and bingo nights) are only available during the summer months. Other activities are available year-round!

1. Relax on The Beach at Bethany Beach

The number one thing to do in Bethany Beach is to simply relax on its beautiful shores. The beach is wide, clean, and family-friendly, with soft sand perfect for lounging under the sun.

I highly recommend spending the entire day on the beach. You can sunbathe in the morning, grab a lobster roll and enjoy it on the beach, or play beach volleyball and try other beach activities like kite surfing or boogie boarding.

The beach is a great place to unwind and soak up some rays.

2. Visit the Bethany Beach Boardwalk

The Bethany Beach Boardwalk is packed with plenty of fun things to do! It is small in comparison to other boardwalks nearby, like the one in Rehoboth Beach, but it packs in a lot of charm. With cute shops, food stands, and lots of ice cream parlors, it’s the perfect spot for a stroll after a day at the beach.

3. Explore Fenwick Island State Park

Just a short drive from Bethany Beach, Fenwick Island State Park is a must-see if you want a break from the beach-town feel. The park offers hiking trails, beaches, and even opportunities for fishing and kayaking.

The park is also one of the best spots for bird-watching along the coast!

4. Take a Sunset Cruise

You haven’t truly experienced Bethany Beach until you’ve seen it from the water. I highly recommend taking a sunset cruise!

Watching the sun dip below the horizon from a boat is a magical experience, and the views of the coastline are absolutely stunning. For the best sunset cruises along the bay, check out Bay Back Tours.

5. Visit the Bethany Beach Nature Center

The Bethany Beach Nature Center offers interactive exhibits on local wildlife and coastal ecosystems.

Located on the north side of Route 26 next to Grotto Pizza, it’s a great way to learn about the area’s unique environment, with a 26-acre conservation area includes three acres of forested uplands, nine acres of freshwater wetlands, and fourteen acres of tidal wetlands.

6. Go to the Farmers Market

The Bethany Beach Farmers Market is one of my favorite weekend summertime activities.

If you happen to be in town on a Saturday morning from early June until September 1st, the Bethany Beach Farmers Market is a great spot for fresh produce, handmade goods, and local treats like homemade pies and fudges.

I always pick up some locally-made jams or fresh fruits to enjoy back at the beach, or bring back home!

7. Bike the Junction and Breakwater Trail

The Junction and Breakwater Trail is perfect if you enjoy biking. This 6-mile trail connects Bethany Beach with Lewes and offers a mix of scenery like wetlands, woods, and fields.

It’s an easy ride, making it ideal for families or casual cyclists! It’s a fun activity if you’re looking for a break from the beach.

8. Visit the Charles W Cullen Bridge

One of the coolest spots near Bethany Beach is the Charles W Cullen Bridge. The views from the bridge are amazing, and it’s a great spot for photos.

9. Enjoy Fresh Seafood at Local Restaurants

Bethany Beach has some incredible seafood restaurants, and the seafood is always fresh and local.

My all-time favorite crab cake sandwich is at “The Cottage Cafe” and the crabs at Mickey’s Crab House are amazing. There are also some upscale dining options in the area like Sedona, if you’re in the mood for something other than seafood.

10. Visit the South Coastal Library

For a little break from the beach, the South Coastal Library is a peaceful place to spend an hour or two. The library has an impressive selection of books that cater to all interests, and the library also hosts regular events like author readings, movie nights, and community programs as well.

If you’re looking for a book to read while you’re relaxing on the beach, stop by the South Coastal Library! (just make sure the book doesn’t get too dirty)

11. Take a Fishing Tour

If you’re into fishing, there are several local charters offering tours. I went on a half-day fishing tour last year, and it was a blast!

We caught a variety of fish, and the guides were super friendly and knowledgeable. Plus, it’s a great way to get out on the water and enjoy the views.

12. Go to the Pool

Many of the properties in Bethany Beach feature pools, poolside bars, hot tubs, and kids’ play areas, so it’s another great way to cool off after a day at the beach.

I recommend a mix of beach, pool, beach, pool – but feel free to go at a pace that works best for you!

13. Take the free tram and trolley around Sea Colony

The Sea Colony Resort offers a free tram and trolley service that can take you around the area, which is super convenient if you’re staying at one of the nearby properties.

You can also take the trolly to explore the properties in Sea Colony! I have fond memories of taking the trolley in Sea Colony, just to walk around and explore the beach houses. It’s a fun way to explore the neighborhood!

14. Take a Yoga Class on the Beach

What better way to relax and unwind than by taking a beachside yoga class? I’ve done this a few times, and the sound of the waves crashing while you’re doing yoga is really special and makes you feel more connected to nature.

Of course, you can also bring your own yoga mat and do some asanas in the early morning!

15. Play Mini Golf at Nick’s Mini Golf

If you’re in the mood for something fun, Nick’s Mini Golf makes for a fun date-night activity. The course has some fun-looking cool dinosaurs, and some surprisingly challenging courses for a mini golf course!

It’s in the Walmart parking lot, and even though the grounds are relatively small, it makes for a fun afternoon outing near Bethany.

16. Watch a Movie on the Beach

Movies on the Beach are usually shown in the summer months, on Mondays at dusk on the beach off Garfield Parkway, June through August. I think it’s such a cute summertime activity, and it’s great that the town of Bethany offers this activity!

For more information about how to watch a movie on the beach, and for a list of upcoming movies, visit the town of Bethany Beach website.

17. Shop at Local Boutiques

Bethany Beach is home to several unique boutiques that are perfect for picking up souvenirs, clothes, or home decor.

I always stop by Bethany Beach Books for a new beach read, and my favorite go-to spot in Bethany Beach is Silver Stockpile Inc. The jewelry selection is so unique, and the prices are great for quality silver jewelry. I bought a gorgeous pair of dangly silver earrings here a few years ago, and I get compliments every time I wear them!

18. Rent a Boat and Explore the Bay

Renting a boat is a great way to explore the bay and its waterways. There are plenty of options for boat rentals in Bethany, whether you’re looking to fish, paddle around, or just enjoy the views.

You can choose from powerboats, yachts, sailboats, and more. I recommend researching online and looking at companies like Shark’s Cove Watersports for the best deals and boat rental companies.

19. Try Windsurfing or Surfing

Windsurfing and surfing are both popular activities in Bethany Beach. Bethany Beach’s waves aren’t as intense as those in other parts of Delaware, making it a great place to try these water sports for the first time.

For windsurfing lessons, I recommend Delmarva Board Sport Adventures! They do a great job with first-timers.

20. Play Beach Volleyball

If you’re with a group, beach volleyball is a classic beach activity that never gets old. There are courts set up along the beach, and if you don’t have a ball, there are usually people who are happy to let you join their game.

Getting Around Bethany Beach

Getting around Bethany Beach is fairly easy, especially if you’re staying near the town center. Most things are within walking distance, but if you want to explore beyond the beach, driving or renting bikes is a great option.

Parking can be limited during peak season, so consider using the free tram and trolley service if you’re staying at Sea Colony or other nearby resorts. If you’re venturing out of Bethany Beach, you can always use a ride-share service like Uber.

Where to Stay in Bethany Beach

Hotel and short-term rental prices vary depending on the season – from late May until September, the hotels can be very expensive in Bethany Beach. Here are a few good options:

Budget option

If you’re looking for a more affordable stay, check out Hotel Bethany Beach which offers clean rooms and easy access to the beach. The prices are usually reasonable, especially during off season. Plus, breakfast is included!

Mid Range option

For a more comfortable experience, I recommend The Bethany Beach Ocean Suites. Located on the Bethany Beach Boardwalk, the hotel has spacious rooms and great amenities, and you’re just a short walk from the beach. It’s a perfect choice for families or couples.

Luxury option

If you’re looking for something truly special, the Addy Sea Historic Oceanfront Inn is a charming B&B offering cozy rooms, an easy beach access, and notable for its gourmet breakfast, afternoon teas, and unique outdoors showers.
