If you have only a few days in Las Vegas in July, I suggest doing the following:

• Do a pool party. Pool season in Vegas peaks in July, and the dayclubs are absolutely at their best. I’d recommend Encore Beach Club and Wet Republic as two of the top picks right now. It’s really fun to go clubbing in your bathing suits, and Vegas does a good job keeping you cool. Be sure to stay hydrated, pace yourself, and take plenty of breaks.
• Book a show. Las Vegas shows in July are one of the best ways to spend your afternoon hours. Two or three hours in an air-conditioned theater is exactly what you want when it’s 110°F outside. KÀ by Cirque du Soleil at MGM Grand is the one I’d put at the top of the list. The stage actually moves during the performance and it’s unlike anything you’ve ever seen.
• Head out early for a day trip. Hoover Dam is about 45 minutes from the Strip and absolutely worth seeing, but only if you get there early. Aim to arrive right at opening, tour the dam and take in the views of Lake Mead, and be back in your air-conditioned hotel room before the midday heat takes over.

Where to Stay in Las Vegas in July

July is a busy time in Las Vegas, and rooms sell out fast, particularly around the 4th of July weekend. Getting your hotel sorted early is really the move here. Here are my top picks across different budgets:

• Luxury: Encore Las Vegas – One of the most stunning hotels on the Strip, with gorgeous rooms, amazing service, and the Encore Beach Club, which is hands down one of the best pool party spots in the city. If you’re going to treat yourself to a hotel, make it this one. Book your stay.
• Mid-Range: Paris Las Vegas – Smack in the middle of the Strip and just a short walk from the Bellagio fountains, this is a solid mid-range choice. The rooms have a fun Parisian feel, the French-inspired dining adds a nice flair, and that massive Eiffel Tower replica makes it one of the most recognizable hotels on the Strip. Awesome value for the location. Book your stay.
• Budget: New York-New York – Want a budget-friendly option that still gives you the full Vegas vibe? This has you covered. The rooms are clean and comfy, and the hotel itself is packed with things to do: rollercoaster and Shake Shack to Mad Apple by Cirque du Soleil. The whole place feels like strolling through the streets of NYC, which is pretty cool. Book your stay.

Things to Do in Las Vegas in July

The trick to a great July in Vegas is learning to work around the heat instead of fighting it. Get outside in the morning, find somewhere cool to be in the afternoon, and head back out once the sun drops. Do that, and July in Las Vegas is a really fun time. Here’s what to fill your days with:

1. Pool Parties & Dayclubs

July is the peak of pool season in Las Vegas. All the major dayclubs are open, DJs like Tiesto and Steve Aoki are lining up, and the whole Strip feels really high energy. These are some of the best pool parties and beach clubs you can go to in Vegas: 

• Tailgate Beach Club: Mandalay Bay has one of the best pool setups on the entire Strip, and Tailgate Beach Club is a huge part of why. Wave pool, lazy river, and a really big outdoor space that’s more like a beach destination than a nightclub. The atmosphere is more chill than some of the other options, which when it’s over 100°F outside, is actually a really good thing. 
• Omnia Day Club: Omnia at Caesars just consistently puts on a good show. It has strong DJ bookings, a great pool area, and a crowd that actually wants to be there and have fun. It’s a proper Las Vegas pool party experience and one of the better ones on the Strip. We had such a blast seeing Tiesto, and I honestly don’t regret a penny I spent (even for the expensive drinks). Book ahead because weekend slots fill up quickly.
• Encore Beach Club: This is one of my favorite pool party venues in all of Vegas. It looks incredible and the DJs they bring in are top-tier. Get your tickets and cabanas sorted well in advance!
• Wet Republic at MGM Grand: This is a great pick if you want more breathing room. It’s one of the bigger dayclubs, and that extra space is really welcome in July. They have multiple pools and a solid music lineup.
• Cowabunga Canyon: If you’ve got kids with you or you just want a water park vibe instead of a club scene, Cowabunga Canyon is a fun spot in July.

2. Indoor Attractions to Beat the Heat

Once you hit about 11 AM in July, being outside in Las Vegas gets intense fast. That stretch until around 5 PM is when you want to be doing something indoors, and there are some really good options beyond just sitting at the casino.

• minus5° Ice Experience: Every single thing in this place is made of ice. The bar, the walls, the seats, the cups. All of it. The temperature inside is kept at 23°F, which in July is basically the most welcome thing in the world. They hand you a parka at the door, and you’re good to go. It’s a quirky, fun stop and a great way to kill an hour or two in the middle of the day. You’ll find locations at The Venetian and Mandalay Bay.
• AREA15 / Meow Wolf: AREA15 is an immersive entertainment complex just off the Strip, and Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart inside is one of those experiences that’s genuinely hard to explain until you’ve been. It’s part art, part interactive adventure, and part bizarre grocery store. Fully indoors, fully air-conditioned, and you can easily burn two to three hours in there without even noticing. We had such a great time, and even though entry tickets were expensive, it was definitely worth it. 
• The Mob Museum: The Mob Museum downtown covers the real history of organized crime in America, and it’s way more engaging than you’d expect. Loads of Las Vegas stories woven throughout, well put together exhibits, and a cool reason to venture off the Strip for a bit. I recommend taking a Lyft versus Uber from your Strip hotel – Uber has been expensive on the Strip lately, and Lyft offers some good first-time rider discounts.

3. The LINQ Promenade: High Roller & Zipline

The LINQ Promenade sits right in the middle of the Strip and has a good mix of bars, restaurants, and things to do. In July, evening is the best time to visit as the temperature starts coming down.

The High Roller is the world’s tallest observation wheel, and the views of Las Vegas at night from up there are really something. Book your slot in the evening, and enjoy the air-conditioned pods as you watch the city all lit up after dark.

4. Fremont Street Experience

Fremont Street feels like a totally different world from the Strip, and a Vegas experience that’s worth doing at least once.

The Viva Vision light show plays on a massive canopy overhead every night, live bands are going across multiple stages, and the whole downtown area is known for being more affordable than the Strip, and a bit less glamorous (which is its own kind of charm). 

You want to go to Fremont Street after 9 PM. It’s finally cool enough to enjoy being outside, and the canopy show is in full swing. Food and drinks are cheaper here than on the Strip, there’s a zipline above the street, and the whole thing is free to walk around. 

5. Nightlife & Nightclubs

Las Vegas nightlife is always fun, but especially in the summertime. Omnia at Caesars, Hakkasan at MGM Grand, Zouk at Resorts World, and XS at Encore all have major DJ residencies going throughout the month and weekends get very busy. Get your tickets sorted in advance and lock in any table bookings early, especially around the 4th of July.

6. Free Things to Do

Some of the best Vegas experiences don’t cost a thing:

• Bellagio Fountains: The show goes every 15 to 30 minutes and looks especially good after dark. After watching it so many times it still doesn’t get old.
• Casino hopping: Walking through the lobbies of The Venetian, Caesars, and The Cosmopolitan is impressive and costs nothing. Great people-watching and free air conditioning thrown in.
• Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Gardens: Always beautifully done and free to walk through. A nice little break from the Strip.
• People-watching on the Strip: Grab a cold drink, find a spot in the shade, and just people watch. 

Day Trips from Las Vegas in July

Day trips in July are totally doable, but the timing matters a lot more than it does in spring. The rule is simple: go early, take way more water than you think you’ll need, and get back before noon. Here are the ones worth doing:

7. Red Rock Canyon

Red Rock Canyon is about 30 minutes from the Strip and the scenery out there is really beautiful. The red sandstone formations are beautiful and there are trails for every fitness level.

In July you want to be there right at opening, usually around 6 AM. Every hour you wait makes it harder. By 10 AM it’s already heating up considerably and by noon it’s not somewhere you want to be.

The electric bike tour is a great way to cover more of the canyon without wearing yourself out in the heat. It’s definitely the way to go in July.

8. Hoover Dam

Hoover Dam is where photos don’t do it justice. Standing in front of it, you get a much better sense of just how massive it is, and learning the history of how it got built is fascinating. It’s only about 45 minutes from the Strip, which makes it an easy half-day trip.

Go in the morning in July before the outdoor temperatures get too brutal. 9. Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon is still very much worth doing in July as long as you’re sensible about it.

South Rim, morning start, lots of water, and no canyon floor hikes during peak heat. The views from the rim are jaw-dropping no matter what time of year you visit, and early morning in July out there is actually a really lovely time to be there before the day heats up.

Day Trips to Skip in July

A couple of spots that are better saved for a different time of year:

• Valley of Fire State Park: One of the most beautiful places near Las Vegas, but July temperatures there regularly hit 115°F or more with barely any shade. Come back in October or November when it’s at its best.
• Death Valley: Not worth attempting in July. Temperatures can reach 125°F and beyond, which is dangerous territory. Save it for winter.

Whatever you’re doing outside in July, be back indoors before noon and don’t head out again until after 5 PM. The midday heat is not something to push through.

4th of July in Las Vegas

Vegas on the 4th of July is something you have to experience at least once. The whole city gets into it and so many fun things to do from parties and fireworks. 

10. Fireworks on the Strip

A number of casinos put on their own fireworks shows on July 4th, and watching them from a rooftop bar or from the High Roller is a really memorable way to spend the evening. The Strat is another spot that gives you a great view of the city, but for best views I recommend watching the fireworks from Aria, Caesars Palace, or Cosmopolitan. 

11. 4th of July Pool Parties & Dayclubs

The 4th of July pool parties in Vegas are some of the best events all year.

Every major dayclub does something big for the holiday, including patriotic themes and special DJ sets, and the crowd is completely in celebration mode from the moment you walk in. Encore Beach Club, Wet Republic, and Omnia Day Club are all great options for Vegas on July 4th.

12. 4th of July Events & Celebrations

Fremont Street typically does a big outdoor celebration for the Fourth of July with live music and the Viva Vision show going all night. Lots of restaurants and bars on the Strip put together special holiday menus. If your trip lands around the 4th, it’s genuinely one of the best times of year to be in Las Vegas.

Las Vegas shows in July run at full capacity all month, and they’re one of the best reasons to visit. Two or three hours in a top-notch air-conditioned venue is the perfect way to spend the hottest stretch of the afternoon. These are some of the best shows you can catch on the Strip in the summertime:

13. Resident Shows, Cirque du Soleil & Comedy Shows

Vegas has some of the best resident shows in the world, and July is a great time to see them.

• KÀ by Cirque du Soleil: This is the one I’d recommend first. There’s a story behind the performance, the stage physically moves and tilts as the show goes on, and the acrobatics are in a whole other level. 
• Michael Jackson ONE: This is another one I’d suggest, particularly if you’ve seen the Michael Jackson movie recently. It’s fun, upbeat, and it’s a moving tribute to his music.
• Mike Hammer Comedy Magic Show: If something more laid-back and fun is what you’re after, watch this. It’s funny, interactive, and makes the whole audience ends up having a brilliant time by the end. Works well for groups, couples, or solo.

14. Concert Residencies & The Sphere

Big-name artists have residencies going throughout July at T-Mobile Arena, Dolby Live at Park MGM, and Allegiant Stadium, with a good spread of genres across the month. Check Vegas.com or the venue sites once you have your dates confirmed and book early. Just remember, the popular nights sell out quickly.

The Sphere is also worth looking into if there’s something on during your visit. There’s nothing else like it in Vegas right now. 

Las Vegas Events in July

Las Vegas events in July are one of the highlights of visiting this month. Something big is always going on, whether it’s sports, nightlife, or something totally unique to Vegas. Here’s what’s happening:

15. NBA Summer League

The NBA Summer League is one of the most fun and underrated things to do in Vegas in July. Every team in the league brings their rookies and young players to Las Vegas to compete, and you get to watch the next wave of NBA talent up close before anyone else really knows who they are.

Games are at the Thomas & Mack Center and Cox Pavilion, the tickets are affordable, and the atmosphere is really enjoyable. It’s a great thing to catch if you’re a basketball fan.

16. Elvis Week at Westgate

Every July, the Westgate Las Vegas Resort, the very hotel where Elvis Presley performed thousands of concerts, puts on a full week of events celebrating the King. Tribute competitions, live performances, film screenings, and Elvis-themed events run throughout the property all week.

Even if Elvis isn’t really your thing, the vibe around the whole event is fun and feels completely unique to Las Vegas.

17. World Series of Poker

The World Series of Poker runs from late May through mid-July at Horseshoe Las Vegas, and the final stretch in July is some of the most gripping action of the whole series.

Even if you’ve never played poker in your life, it’s worth going to watch. Seeing the world’s top players competing for life-changing prize money in person is really something, and you can sometimes catch the final stages from the sidelines.

If you want to be close to all of it, staying at Paris Las Vegas or Horseshoe is the move.

18. Sports Events

The Las Vegas Aces (WNBA) are one of the best teams in the league, and a July home game is an underrated thing you can do while you’re in Vegas. They have exciting games, and the tickets are very reasonable compared to pretty much everything else you’ll spend money on during your trip.

Check the schedule and try to get tickets if there’s a home game during your visit!

Also, the UFC puts on events at T-Mobile Arena on a regular basis, and July usually delivers at least one big fight night in Las Vegas. If a card is on during your trip, it’s a fantastic atmosphere to be part of. Check the UFC site once your dates are set.
