Make the most of your day in Atlantic City with food, fun, and the iconic boardwalk!
I recently spent time exploring Atlantic City, and it was quite an experience. While Atlantic City is smaller and more chill compared to Las Vegas, there are still plenty of things to do, like exploring different casino hotels, eating good food, and chilling by the beach on the boardwalk.
One day is really all you need to see Atlantic City, and this is what I recommend doing if you only have one day, so you can pack in a lot without feeling rushed.
Here’s exactly how to spend a perfect day in Atlantic City, from morning coffee to evening entertainment.
Short on Time?
If you’re short on time, focus on the essentials: Start with a quick walk along the boardwalk, then plan your evening around The Hook at Caesars. Afterward, join a ghost tour to explore the city’s historic streets and hear some spooky stories.
Where to Stay in Atlantic City

- Budget: Tropicana Resort – We stayed at the Tropicana Resort, and it was a really fun experience! The rooms are clean and coastal-themed, and I felt like we didn’t even have to leave the hotel because there was so much to do. The location is decent too, since you’re right on the boardwalk. Book your stay.
- Mid-Range: Chelsea Pub and Inn – This Victorian-era hotel is one of the most unique places you can stay in Atlantic City. It’s smaller, quieter, and feels more personal than the big casino hotels. The location is convenient, and it’s perfect if you want a relaxed place to come back to at night. Book your stay.
- Luxury: Borgata Hotel and Resort – We also stayed at Borgata, and honestly, it felt like Vegas. The rooms were really nice and comfortable, and the hotel is beautiful to walk around. It’s well-designed, spacious, and comfortable, and you don’t really need to leave the hotel. Book your stay.
Morning
Mornings in Atlantic City are calm and surprisingly peaceful, especially if you start early. The boardwalk is quieter, the ocean air feels refreshing, and it’s the perfect time to ease into the day.
Breakfast

When I visited Atlantic City with my former college roommate, we stayed at Tropicana Resort, and we really enjoyed the crepes at La Petite Crêperie! I highly recommend their savory crepes, and my college roommate loved their cappuccino. It was a great way to start the day.
For something lighter, Heyday Coffee is ideal if you mostly want a drink. It’s a little past Caesars Palace Hotel and Casino and slightly off the boardwalk, but their coffee is excellent, and it’s a good grab-and-go stop before heading back onto the boardwalk.
If you’re looking for something a little different, a few other spots worth checking out are:
- Beat The Daily Grind Café – slightly off the general boardwalk area, but another solid breakfast spot to start the day.
- Gilchrist Restaurant – a local favorite with fast service, solid options, and nice vibes. It’s closer to the Atlantic City Aquarium and Borgata Hotel and Casino.
Explore the Boardwalk

After breakfast, head straight to the Atlantic City Boardwalk. It’s the heart of the city and one of the most iconic boardwalks in the country. Walking here in the morning feels relaxed, with fewer crowds and plenty of photo opportunities.
Be sure to stop by Fralinger’s Original Salt Water Taffy for a sweet treat or souvenir! Along the way, you’ll pass historic spots like Kennedy Plaza, the In the Line of Duty Memorial, and the New Jersey Korean War Memorial.
If you want some entertainment, Steel Pier and Central Pier Arcade are pretty fun, and you can get some nice views of the boardwalk from the Ferris wheel.
Afternoon
By midday, the action in Atlantic City starts to pick up. This is the perfect time to grab lunch, explore beyond the boardwalk, and enjoy some outdoor time (and hopefully catch some sunshine!).
Lunch

If you’re sticking to a budget, be sure to visit White House Sub Shop! Their subs are legendary, locals love them, and they’re big enough to share. Bill’s Gyro & Souvlaki is another great lunch spot for something quick and filling.
If you’re in the mood for more of a sit-down place, visit Back Bay Ale House for some quality seafood and nice views. We also really enjoyed Biergarten Atlantic City on the boardwalk. Their pretzels and wings are delicious, and they serve some really good beers.
Explore Outside the Boardwalk

Once you’ve eaten, go and explore beyond the main strip. Absecon Lighthouse is one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks, and even though climbing to the top is quite the workout, the views are great, and you can cross it off your Atlantic City to-do list.
It’s not for the faint of heart, but there are plenty of rest stops to help you climb up the stairs of the lighthouse.
Other cool spots include the Civil Rights Garden and Noyes Arts Garage of Stockton University. If shopping is more your thing, head to Tanger Outlets Atlantic City. There are some pretty good deals, and the layout is really comfortable, making it easy to pick up a few souvenirs.
Other fun spots:
- Lucky Snake Arcade & Sports Bar – located in Showboat Hotel and Casino. There are a lot of fun arcade games for adults, and you can easily spend a few hours here.
- Waterpark – great for families, with cool water slides and a lazy river.
Go to the Beach

The beaches are wide, and they’re easy to access from the boardwalk. Even if you don’t swim, walking along the shoreline is super relaxing. I do recommend walking closer to Caesars Palace and Ocean Resort and Casino, since the beach area near Tropicana can be a bit dirty.
If you can snag good weather in the warmer months, definitely make the most of your time in Atlantic City with a walk on the beach.
Evening
As the sun sets, Atlantic City’s lights come on, and the casinos start to fill up. The city definitely becomes more lively.
Dinner

For dinner, Atlantic City has some great seafood spots, and these places are consistently good:
- Cuba Libre – they have one of the best happy hours, with delicious appetizers like yucca fries and tostones, plus really yummy mojitos.
- Dock’s Oyster House – a bit pricier, but super historic and elegant. One of the best spots in Atlantic City for seafood, and they also have some really good steaks.
- Old Homestead Steak House – pricey, but worth it if you’re celebrating or splurging. Located in the Borgata Hotel and Casino, it’s one of the nicer spots in Atlantic City.
Watch The Hook at Caesars

After dinner, head to Caesars Atlantic City to see The Hook. This show is bold, entertaining, and a bit edgy, which feels very on-theme for Atlantic City.
Definitely book your tickets in advance, especially on weekends, since this is one of the main entertainment options in Atlantic City.
