How to Enjoy Las Vegas in December

Visiting Las Vegas in December? Here’s what to expect.

I recently went to Las Vegas for the first time ever in December, and honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect.

Vegas has such a strong reputation for summer pool parties, extreme heat, and wild nights, so visiting during the winter felt a little unknown. But after spending time there, I can confidently say that December is one of the most underrated times to experience Las Vegas.

The city has some festive holiday decor, the weather is actually AMAZING (I can comfortably walk on the Strip without having to constantly duck into air-conditioned casinos on my way to different spots), and there are less crowds everywhere.

If you’re thinking about a winter trip, here’s exactly what Las Vegas looks like in December and during the holiday season, and how to make the most of your time in the city!

Short on Time?

Here’s the must-do list for Las Vegas in December:

  • Grand Canyon – Day trips are much more enjoyable in cooler weather with lighter crowds.
  • Valley of Fire State Park – December is the perfect time for outdoor adventures without the desert heat.
  • Cirque du Soleil – See one of these iconic shows for a classic Vegas night.

Las Vegas Weather in December + Temperature

December weather in Las Vegas is refreshingly mild, especially if you’re used to visiting in the scorching desert heat that occurs in the summer and spring months.

During the day, temperatures usually hover between 50°F and 65°F, which makes walking the Strip actually enjoyable. Nights are much cooler, though, often dropping into the 30s or low 40s, so layers are essential.

I highly recommend packing some sweaters and maybe a light coat, but the cold is totally bearable, especially if you’re used to cooler temperatures in the winter time.

What I loved most about Las Vegas in the winter was being able to explore without constantly hunting for air conditioning. You can comfortably walk between hotels, sit outside at various rooftop bars and patios, and even take day trips and explore beautiful canyons without feeling drained.

The dry desert air still applies, even in the wintertime, so hydration and moisturizer are your best friends. I also recommend sunscreen!

Will it Snow in December in Las Vegas?

Snow on the Las Vegas Strip is extremely rare. While the city itself almost never sees snowfall, nearby mountain areas like Mount Charleston and Lee Canyon often do. That means you can enjoy snow-capped views in the distance or even plan a quick winter escape without leaving Nevada.

Mount Charleston and Lee Canyon make for some really nice day trips from Vegas, and there are often some really nice tours you can do in the winter months to explore different places like the Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon, Red Rock Canyon, and more! It’s the perfect time to take day trips around the area.

On the Strip, you’ll occasionally see “snow” during holiday shows or themed attractions (this is fake snow), but it’s purely decorative. Still, seeing Christmas lights paired with palm trees is a uniquely Vegas experience, and there’s Christmas music playing all over the Strip, which makes walking around from casino to casino super fun!

Things to Do in Las Vegas in December

There are still so many things to do in December in Vegas. The holiday decor is really cute, you get a lot of special events (heated swims and special holiday shopping discounts), and, of course, your usual entertainment, dining, and nightlife.

It’s busy enough to feel exciting, but not so crowded that it becomes exhausting to try to get from place to place.

Below are some of my favorite ways to experience Las Vegas (both on and off-strip) during the holiday season!

Holiday & Seasonal Attractions

Las Vegas fully leans into the holiday season, and many of its most iconic spots get a seasonal glow-up. Be sure to check out the following:

1. Bellagio Conservatory & Fountains

The Bellagio Conservatory is always stunning, but in December it turns into a full-blown winter wonderland. The holiday display features oversized ornaments, festive florals, and whimsical scenes that change slightly every year. It’s completely free and one of the most impressive seasonal displays in the city.

Right outside, the Bellagio Fountains feel extra magical at night when paired with holiday music and cooler air. Watching the water dance while bundled up is a totally different vibe than sweating through it in July, and I highly recommend watching it with a cup of hot cocoa!

2. Ethel M Chocolates Factory & Cactus Garden

The Ethel M Chocolates Factory & Cactus Garden is one of the most magical holiday experiences in Las Vegas. Located just a short drive from the Strip in Henderson, the garden is home to over 300 species of cacti and desert plants, making it one of the largest cactus gardens in the world.

During December, the entire space is transformed with hundreds of thousands of twinkling holiday lights, wrapping around towering cacti and desert landscapes in a way that feels both festive and uniquely Southwest American.

It’s much quieter than most Strip attractions, which makes it a great escape if you want something low-key and crowd-free.

The garden is completely free to enter, and you can take your time strolling, snapping photos, or just enjoying the atmosphere. Inside, you can watch chocolatiers at work and sample complimentary chocolates, including seasonal flavors you won’t find at other times of year.

The factory often releases limited-edition holiday chocolates, gift boxes, and festive treats that make perfect souvenirs or gifts!

3. Glittering Lights at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

Glittering Lights at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway is one of the most classic holiday experiences in the city, and it feels especially fun if you’re visiting Vegas in December for the first time.

This is a drive-through holiday light show, which means you stay in your car and slowly cruise through miles of themed light displays while holiday music plays on your radio.

The displays are massive, colorful, and surprisingly detailed, ranging from traditional Christmas scenes to playful, Vegas-style installations. Be sure to book your tickets in advance!

It’s an easy way to get into the holiday spirit without having to bundle up or walk long distances.

You can bring snacks, hot drinks, and even make it part of a cozy night out after dinner. The drive usually takes about 20–30 minutes, depending on crowds, and it’s great for couples, families, or anyone wanting a festive activity that doesn’t feel overwhelming. Going on a weekday night helps avoid long lines, especially closer to Christmas.

4. Enchant

Enchant is one of the most immersive holiday experiences you can find in Las Vegas, and it honestly feels like stepping into a Christmas movie set. The centerpiece is a massive light maze made up of millions of twinkling lights, where you wander through glowing tunnels, arches, and themed displays while searching for hidden clues.

Everywhere you look, there are oversized ornaments and beautifully lit Christmas trees. It’s festive without feeling cheap, and the production value is impressively high.

Beyond the maze, Enchant also features ice skating, holiday shopping stalls, themed cocktails, and seasonal food, which makes it easy to spend a full evening there.

5. Green Valley Ranch Winter Terrace

Green Valley Ranch in Henderson is one of the most underrated holiday spots near Las Vegas. The ranch transforms into a winter-themed terrace complete with fire pits, seasonal décor, and twinkling lights. The space feels warm and inviting, especially in the evenings when the temperature drops and the lights really shine.

The crowd here tends to be more local, which gives it a laid-back, neighborhood vibe that’s refreshing if you’ve been bouncing between big resorts.

6. Play at Casinos with Holiday Decor

Las Vegas casino in December with holiday decor.

Casinos don’t skip the holidays. Many decorate their floors, entrances, and lobbies with massive Christmas trees and themed installations.

Walking through places like Caesars Palace, The Venetian, and Wynn feels especially festive in December. Even if you’re not gambling, casino-hopping just to see the décor is worth it (and honestly, it’s one of my favorite things to do on the Strip!)

7. The LINQ Promenade & High Roller

Of course, there’s no visit to Vegas without going on the High Roller Observation Wheel. The LINQ Promenade is good to do any time of year, but visiting in December adds lights, music, and seasonal pop-ups! It’s fun to wander through with a hot drink (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) and enjoy the energy.

To make the most of your visit, be sure to book your High Roller tickets in advance!

8. Fremont Street Experience

Fremont Street is also a must-visit in December! The overhead light canopy often runs holiday-themed shows, and the energy downtown is a little more laid-back than the Strip (and honestly, way more affordable).

You can catch live music, street performers, and a lot of events happening in the hotels at the Fremont Street Experience (like the heated pool swim at Circa Resort & Casino!) There’s also an option to experience a walking tour!

9. The Neon Museum

The Neon Museum is really magical in December, when cooler temperatures make exploring the outdoor exhibits actually enjoyable. Walking through the Neon Boneyard at night, surrounded by glowing vintage Vegas signs is really cool and nostalgic.

During the holiday season, the atmosphere feels cozy rather than scorching hot or overly crowded. It’s one of those uniquely Vegas experiences that really benefits from winter weather.

This is a great museum to pair with The Mob Museum for a two-in-one cultural day downtown. You can explore Vegas history at the Mob Museum in the afternoon, then head to the Neon Museum after sunset for the full visual experience.

Both are located downtown, making it easy to bundle them together without backtracking. Get your Neon Museum tickets here, and grab your Mob Museum passes to lock in your time slot, especially during the holiday season when evening visits are popular.

Winter Experiences

Vegas may not be the first destination you think of when you think of holiday travel, but December in Vegas is home to some really unique seasonal activities you can’t get any other time of year.

10. Meet Santa Claus

Meeting Santa Claus at Fashion Show Mall is a must-do, especially if you’re visiting Las Vegas with kids in December. The mall transforms part of its space into a classic holiday setup, complete with seasonal décor, twinkling lights, and a cozy photo area where Santa greets visitors.

The experience is well-organized and easy to fit into a shopping day. Pair it with shopping, dining, or a quick break from sightseeing, and it becomes an easy, stress-free holiday stop!

11. Winter Pool Parties

The front of Circa hotel from outside.

Yes, pool parties still exist in December! Circa’s Winter Swim keeps pools heated, and Marquee Dayclub Dome offers an indoor pool party experience. It’s a really cool experience, and I highly recommend it! Vegas parties definitely don’t slow down in the wintertime, and there is still a lot of entertainment year-round.

Shows, Concerts & Entertainment

Entertainment is one area where December truly shines. There are some seriously awesome events happening on and off the Strip, and these are a few you have to absolutely check out!

12. Cirque du Soleil Shows

Cirque du Soleil runs year-round, making December the perfect time to catch a show without the peak-season crowds. Classics like “O,” “,” and “Mad Apple” are some of my favorites, and each show is polished, immersive, and unforgettable.

Don’t miss the chance to see one of these spectacular shows while the Strip feels a little quieter and more festive. Booking your ticket in advance ensures you get the best seats for an evening of wonder (and you might snag a great deal too!).

13. Blue Man Group

Blue Man Group is another fun, high-energy show to catch in December. The show is indoors and warm, making it a nice escape from the winter chill. The performances are lively and engaging, and good for all ages (which is kind of rare for shows on the Strip).

If you’re looking for an upbeat night out, be sure to book some tickets in December (which can be heavily discounted compared to tickets in the summertime).

14. Holiday-Themed Concerts

The Sphere in Las Vegas.

December brings special holiday concerts, orchestral performances, and themed shows across the city. These range from classic Christmas music to modern performances!

You can catch tribune concerts and candlelight concerts, see performances like the Nutcracker, and enjoy special residencies at the Sphere like the Backstreet Boys and holiday-themed shows.

The sphere has been really popping off in Vegas lately, and honestly any time of year is great to see it! Be sure to get your tickets here!

15. Artist Concerts

Major artists often perform in December, especially leading into New Year’s Eve. Residencies and one-off concerts make it a great month for music lovers, and world-famous DJs are all over the Strip before NYE. Typically, residencies happen in smaller venues than in larger Vegas stadiums, which makes the experience feel more intimate.

Holiday Shopping in Las Vegas

Shopping in Vegas during December is an experience on its own. MGM Rewards offers some holiday discounts if you’re a member (which I highly recommend you do if you visit Vegas. It’s free to join, and you can snag some really great hotel rates – it’s how we’re able to stay in Vegas for weeks at a time without breaking the bank!).

You can enjoy special shopping experiences and also snag some really great deals during this time of year.

16. Cowboy Christmas (NFR)

This was my favorite discovery of the year! I had no idea that Las Vegas hosts the National Finals Rodeo (NFR) every December at the Thomas & Mack Center.

With that annual event comes some incredible cowboy-themed shopping at the Horseshoe Las Vegas (which, if you want super close proximity to the action, I highly recommend just staying at the hotel).

The shopping is massive and takes over the entire convention area at Horseshoe, and you can find handcrafted leather goods like cowboy boots and hats, Western apparel, and unique gifts.

Even if you’re not into rodeo culture or cowboys like I am, it’s a really fun and festive place to look around. Just be warned, you might get lost in there!

17. The Magical Forest

The Magical Forest will instantly put you in a holiday mood. This seasonal event features twinkling light displays, small carnival-style rides, and festive vendor booths, set inside a walkable forest-style layout. It feels like a traditional holiday fair, and what makes the Magical Forest special is how old-school and wholesome it feels.

It’s especially great for families, and you can grab hot chocolate, wander the lights, and take your time without feeling rushed.

18. Favorite Las Vegas Shops

Shopping in Las Vegas feels completely different in December, and honestly, it’s one of the best times to explore the city’s shopping centers.

The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace, Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian, and Miracle Mile Shops all go big with holiday décor. There are some pretty good holiday sales going on, and the cooler temperatures mean you can wander comfortably without rushing from store to store.

Window-shopping is also super fun, especially at the Venetian Grand Canal Shops, where you can walk alongside holiday lights.

Day Trips & Outdoor Adventures

December is one of the best months of the year for outdoor exploration around Las Vegas. Crowds are lighter, and you can actually enjoy being outside without constantly searching for shade or water. These day trips offer a totally different side of Vegas that’s well worth experiencing, with beautiful canyons and natural landscapes!

19. Lee Canyon

Lee Canyon is one of the best winter escapes near Las Vegas. Just about an hour from the Strip, it offers snowy mountain scenery, skiing, and snowboarding. It feels like stepping into a different state entirely.

Even if you’re not into skiing, the drive alone is worth it. The views are beautiful, the air is crisp, and it’s a refreshing change of pace from the Strip. Best part, you can head back to the city by evening!

20. Red Rock Canyon

Red Rock Canyon is one of the easiest and most rewarding outdoor escapes from Las Vegas, and December is an ideal time to visit. It’s super close to Vegas, the cooler temperatures make hiking comfortable, and the trails are noticeably quieter.

The red sandstone formations glow beautifully in winter light, especially in the early morning or late afternoon.

You can do the scenic drive if you’re short on time, or choose one of the shorter trails. It’s close enough to the Strip that you don’t need a full day, making it a perfect afternoon detour.

21. Grand Canyon (South or West Rim)

Grand Canyon (South Rim) with snow.
Grand Canyon (South Rim) in winter

Visiting the Grand Canyon in December is a completely different experience than during peak season. The crowds are smaller, temperatures are cooler, and the views feel more peaceful and expansive. The South Rim is especially stunning in winter, and sometimes snow dusts the canyon walls.

Even though it’s a longer day trip from Vegas, the payoff is huge (and if you’re not renting a car, I highly recommend seeing it via a comfortable bus tour!).

22. Valley of Fire State Park

Valley of Fire State Park rock formations.

Valley of Fire State Park looks unreal in winter. The red and orange rock formations pop against the clear blue sky, and hiking feels manageable instead of exhausting. December temperatures are ideal for exploring trails like Fire Wave and White Domes without worrying about extreme heat.

It’s one of the most photogenic places near Las Vegas, and the Valley of Fire is easily one of the best winter day trips from the city. I suggest taking this Valley of Fire State Park tour!

23. Hoover Dam

Visiting the Hoover Dam is much more enjoyable in December thanks to fewer crowds and cooler weather. The walk across the dam doesn’t feel overwhelming, and you can actually take your time reading signs and enjoying the views.

It’s also easy to combine Hoover Dam with nearby stops like Boulder City or Lake Mead! If you want a short day trip from Vegas, this one is great!

You can take this 3-hour Hoover Dam guided tour. There’s also this longer tour with lunch.

24. Boulder City

Boulder City is a charming stop in December, especially if you’re looking for something quieter and more relaxed away from the Strip. The town embraces the holidays with lights, decorations, and small local events. It feels cozy and welcoming, and it’s a great spot to stroll downtown, grab a coffee, and browse local shops!

You can easily combine with the Hoover Dam, or visit it on its own as a day trip. For a smooth, stress-free visit, a round-trip transfer to Boulder City’s historic district is a great option.

25. Death Valley

Scenic Death Valley views.

Winter is the best and safest time to visit Death Valley, and December is ideal. Temperatures are manageable, making it possible to explore places like Badwater Basin, Zabriskie Point, and Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes without risking heat exhaustion. The landscapes feel otherworldly and vast, especially with fewer visitors around.

It’s a long day trip from Las Vegas, and that’s why I highly recommend visiting it as part of a tour, where everything is taken care of! There are other great options, too, including small group tours and sunset and stargazing tours. But if you’re up for the drive, it’s completely worth it, and I highly recommend using this car rental

Special December Events & Festivals

26. Great Santa Run

The Great Santa Run is held every December, where thousands of people flood downtown dressed head-to-toe in Santa suits for this charity run. The energy is high, the photos are hilarious, and the overall vibe feels really festive.

Even if you don’t participate, watching from the sidelines is super entertaining. Seeing a sea of Santas jogging past Fremont Street landmarks is hilarious, and you really feel a sense of community in Vegas.

27. National Finals Rodeo (NFR)

The National Finals Rodeo is one of the biggest December events in Las Vegas, and you’ll feel like you’re in Nashville the moment you arrive. Rodeo fans from all over the country pack the city, bringing the country to the Strip. Hotels fill up fast, cowboy hats become part of the city’s fashion, and themed events pop up everywhere.

Even if you’re not attending the rodeo itself, NFR still impacts the overall Vegas vibe. Bars, restaurants, and casinos lean into western themes, and nightlife is super fun. It really takes over the city!

28. Henderson WinterFest

Henderson WinterFest is perfect if you’re looking for a festive experience that feels more local and less overwhelming than the Strip. The celebration includes parades, holiday lights, live entertainment, and family-friendly activities.

The atmosphere is cheerful and relaxed, making it easy to enjoy without feeling overstimulated, and it’s especially nice if you’re traveling with kids.

29. Downtown Las Vegas Events Center Shows

The Downtown Las Vegas Events Center hosts a variety of concerts and holiday-themed performances throughout December. The venue has an open-air feel that works well during cooler winter nights.

Tickets are often more affordable than similar shows on the Strip, which makes it easier to catch live music!

30. The Mint Tavern

The Mint Tavern is known for its annual holiday parties. This place feels like a throwback to old-school Vegas nightlife. The décor is festive, the drinks are strong, and the crowd is great. You’ll find a mix of regulars and visitors here!

Hot New Las Vegas Spots for December 2025

Las Vegas never stops evolving, and December 2025 brings some exciting new spots worth checking out. These newer venues blend immersive experiences, stylish design, and casual comfort, making them perfect additions to a winter itinerary.

31. Interstellar Arc (AREA15)

Interstellar Arc is one of the newest immersive experiences inside AREA15. The experience is futuristic, interactive, and visually striking, making it ideal for cooler evenings when you want to be indoors.

December crowds actually enhance the experience here. The energy feels lively, and AREA15 itself is especially fun during the holidays. Pair this with drinks or dinner inside the complex, or check out the other areas in Area 15 (highly recommend a visit to Omegamart!)

Grab your tickets to Interstellar Arc and experience it this holiday season!

32. White Whale Cocktail Lounge

White Whale Cocktail Lounge is a stylish new addition to the Vegas nightlife scene, and it’s perfect for winter nights. The space is cozy and intimate, with creative cocktails (their Espresso martini is absolutely amazing).

33. Chilangos Tacos

The Chilangos Tacos stall in Las Vegas.

Chilangos Tacos has quickly become a go-to spot for late-night eats in Las Vegas. The portions are generous, and the menu hits the spot after a long day of exploring. It’s casual, fast, and consistently delicious. It’s a great stop if you’re bouncing between shows, bars, or attractions!

New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas

New Year’s Eve in Vegas is on another level. The Strip shuts down to traffic, turning into a massive pedestrian party. Fireworks launch from multiple casinos at midnight, creating an unforgettable spectacle. There are soooo many parties going on, events at restaurants and bars, and DJs from all over the world come to Vegas to party!

If you’re in town for NYE, plan everything in advance. Restaurants, shows, and hotels sell out quickly, but the energy is amazing and well worth it.

Getting Around Las Vegas in December

December is a great month for walking thanks to cooler temperatures. Ride-shares, taxis, and trams make getting around easy, but if you’re up for walking a bit and getting your steps in, you’ll be fine with a light hoodie and some layers at night!

If you’re planning on doing a few day trips, I highly recommend booking this car rental. Traffic is generally manageable outside of major events.

Where to Stay in Las Vegas

Central Strip hotels like Bellagio, Paris, Caesars Palace, and The Venetian are ideal in December. They put you close to decorations, shows, and attractions!

  • Budget: MGM Grand – This hotel offers a lively atmosphere, large rooms for the price, and plenty of dining and entertainment options. It’s especially great in December when cooler weather makes exploring the property and nearby attractions more enjoyable. Book your stay.
  • Mid-Range: Paris Las Vegas – With its Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, and holiday charm, Paris Las Vegas brings a touch of France to the Strip. Cozy rooms, French dining, and a central location make exploring nearby attractions easy. Book your stay.
  • Mid-Luxury: Caesars Palace – This Roman-inspired classic shines during the holidays with seasonal décor. Spacious rooms, world-class shows, pools, and dining make it a mix of fun and luxury. Book your stay.
  • Luxury: Bellagio – From the iconic fountains to the festive conservatory, Bellagio is a magical December destination. Elegant rooms, fine dining, and a prime Strip location make it perfect for first-time visitors. Book your stay.
  • Luxury: The Venetian – Gondola rides, décor, and festive lights make The Venetian feel like a slice of Venice in December. Top-notch dining, shopping, and a relaxing spa complete the experience. Book your stay.

If you want something quieter, consider Henderson or off-Strip resorts.
