The Inn at Little Washington Review

The Restaurant
I can’t talk about The Inn at Little Washington without mentioning its heart and soul: the Michelin three-star restaurant. Chef Patrick O’Connell fuses classic French techniques with nostalgic American flavors.
I’m still thinking about the beef carpaccio with Caesar salad ice cream! It’s one of those dishes that makes you question everything you thought you knew about food. And don’t even get me started on the popcorn amuse-bouche. It was unexpected and delicious!
The “can of sardines” was another unexpected delight—it turned out to be smoked foie gras. And if you love local flavors, you’ll get a real taste of Virginia with dishes like the pawpaw posset. I had never tasted pawpaw before, but now I’m hooked (I really want to attend a local PawPaw festival this year!).

Every dish at The Inn feels like a work of art, crafted from fresh, organic ingredients, many of which come from Chef O’Connell’s own nearby farms. I loved how every plate had such thoughtful attention to detail. There are other quality restaurants in my hometown of Vienna, Virginia that I’ve been to, but this restaurant is something else.
And the waiters? They’re on another level. Each one is incredibly knowledgeable and can share the story behind every ingredient. If you’re curious about your meal, don’t hesitate to ask them—they’ll make sure you know the full story behind every bite.

When you dine at The Inn, you can choose between two prix-fixe menus: vegetarian and regular. You can mix and match items on the prix-fixe menus, like, for example, if you want to have the duck main course but the vegetarian appetizer sounds more appealing to you, you can do that! Just let your waiter know.
What I really love though, is how accommodating the restaurant is with dietary restrictions. I have a tree nut allergy, and I really felt like I was in good hands, knowing they can tailor the experience to fit my dietary needs.
They also offer a full vegetarian menu, and they encourage guests to let them know about any allergies when making reservations.

I also loved the ambiance of the restaurant. It’s this perfect mix of cozy, luxurious, and eclectic. You’ll find quirky decor like random portraits on the walls and a welcoming fireplace, but it all comes together in a way that’s totally unique.
At first, the mix of styles might throw you off, but as you settle in, it feels like the only way the meal could be served. And if you’re celebrating something special, definitely let them know. They surprised me with a sweet white chocolate disc on my dessert to help my partner and me celebrate our anniversary!

The Hotel
I haven’t had the chance to stay at The Inn at Little Washington yet, but I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about the accommodations. The hotel offers just 24 guest rooms and suites, which gives it an intimate, exclusive feel.
Each room is a perfect blend of comfort and luxury, with lavish furnishings, rich fabrics, and enchanting decor.

I can only imagine how it must feel to sink into one of those plush beds after an incredible meal at the restaurant—sounds like the ultimate getaway.
If you’re looking for a spot where sophistication and relaxation go hand in hand, The Inn seems like the perfect choice. Many rooms offer stunning views of the surrounding gardens and the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Guests at the hotel enjoy exclusive amenities, including a welcome cocktail upon arrival, afternoon tea in the garden, house breakfast in the Inn’s dining room, complimentary valet parking, and a guaranteed dining reservation each evening. Each guest can also access the beautifully curated library.

Patty O’s Cafe and Bakery
If you’re looking for a more laid-back dining experience in the area, Patty O’s Café and Bakery is definitely worth a visit. This charming spot used to be a gas station, but now it’s a cozy sidewalk café that offers a fantastic alternative to the formal dining room.
Around the corner, Patty O’s bakery has an amazing selection of freshly baked pastries, artisanal bread, and gourmet coffee. I HAD to try the chocolate mousse and key lime pie, and I’m so glad I did—both were incredible! I highly recommend grabbing some pastries to go, for the day after your visit.
